4 or 5 days, as I recall. Very calm. All power.
Some Navy, probably U.S., pinged us North of the island.

Boats:: What is the better for Cruising
From a buyer's point of view, yes, Autumn/Winter is the best time to buy.

If possible, I recommend you come out to Japan and see the boats.

I think I'm right in saying that the Bluewater series of yachts (20・21・24・25・30・33) were all designed by Shun Takeichi (武市　俊) sometimes in cooperation with other designers such as Muramoto, Yokoyama and others. In the early 1970's, Bluewaters were often built by Lin Force Industries - リンフォース工業（株）- but other yards saw commissions too.

Take a look at this page (Japanese) for a report on a 24' Bluewater which sailed around the world!
Inspiring stuff!

Also, Google "武市　俊　ブルーウォーター"

I'm sorry to say it, but I don't like Yamahas very much. Their designs are usually unremarkable and the quality of build is... cheap, to put it politely. I guess the older ones like this were more strongly built, but all boats were in those days, and anything built for Yamaha after New Japan went out of business just became mass produced crap... Someone will probably disagree, but there you go. My opinion.

Saito continues his challenge - returns to Hawaii Day 656 [by Bill]

Sailing in general:: Saito continues his challenge - returns to Hawaii Day 656
If you haven't been following Saito, you are missing a gallant effort. He left Hawaii a week or so ago and developed seawater cooling circuit leak and it was decided he would return to Hawaii for further repairs. En-route to return he faces strong head winds, the leak is under control, but not the engine has stopped as the water intake is clogged. And the aux generator is on the fritz! That runs the hydraulic steering and nav equipment!!!!
Opposing wind and unfavorable currents.
Wow, what an epic...
http://www.saito8.blogspot.com/
